One of the great staples of the comedy films of the 1980s is the idea that a group of misfit underdogs can, when they band together, achieve great things.
What started with "Animal House" in 1978 later gave us "Revenge of the Nerds," "Wildcats," and, in 1984, "Police Academy."
The story of a group of cadets who join the local police academy after the mayor opens up admission to anyone, "Police Academy" is a classic example of the team of underdogs comedy trope.
