          The North Carolina-based Anchormen formed in 1979. A year or so later, another group based in Claremont, North Carolina also started using the Anchormen name.

          The Anchormen were managed initially by Ray Bullard and later by drummer Tim Bullins. Often described as a farm group, the Anchormen provided national exposure for many young singers who later became well-known fixtures in Southern Gospel.

          Baritone singer Terry Carter was with the group at the beginning.

          He took a 13-year break from 1997-2010, then returned for an additional seven years.

          The history of the Anchormen came to an end in 2020, a casualty of the Covid-19 pandemic.
